Golf was introduced to Mauritius more than a century ago by a few eager English gentlemen who built the 18 holes golf course at Gymkhana in Vacoas. Soon the new game found lots of devoted followers and from there the virus was carried right into the first luxury hotels.

Situated on the west coast of Mauritius, Tamarina Golf, Spa and Beach was the first residential golf estate of the island. Spectacular views of the sea, the mountains and the river, a gentle breeze and the lowest rainfall on the island make this 18 hole golf course, designed by Rodney Wright, a golfer’s dream escape. Designed by Peter Matkovich from the South African company Hayes, this sensational golf course extends over 100 hectares of pristine south coast landscape. The 18 hole, par 72 championship course was established in 2004 and has already hosted famous competitions. Stunning views of the mountains, the sea and the ocean blend in with the beauty of Chateau de Bel Ombre, an authentic colonial castle; adding a historical element to the already breath-taking scenery.

The Legend Golf Course is situated at Belle Mare Plage Hotel, in the East of the island. Established in 1994, it is one the oldest and most reputed golf courses in Mauritius and located along one of the island’s most stunning beaches. Built to match USPGA specifications, the Legend golf course has been designed by South African champion Hugh Baiocchi. Guests staying at Constance Belle Mare Plage and Constance Le Prince Maurice Hotels are entitled to free green fees.
